2025 CODE OF ETHICS RECLAIMED FOR NURSES WHO REFUSE TO STAY SILENT

2025 CODE OF ETHICS RECLAIMED FOR NURSES WHO REFUSE TO STAY SILENT

Provision 1

Every patient has worth — regardless of their choices, background, or beliefs.

  • Respect means informed consent — not coercion.
  • Transparency is ethical care.
Provision 2

Our primary commitment is to the patient, not the system.

  • When the policy conflicts with ethics, we choose people.
  • Calm truth-telling is how we lead in chaos.
Provision 3

We speak up. We intervene. We don’t stay silent when harm is happening.

  • Informed consent is sacred.
  • Advocacy is daily act of courage.
Provision 4

When you know better, you’re required to do better — even if leadership doesn’t.

  • Ethical integrity > institutional loyalty.
  • “I was just following orders” isn’t nursing
Provision 5

We do not betray our values to fit in. We do not allow “team pressure” to override safety.

  • Coercion is not professionalism. It’s harm.
  • If you are asked to compromise your conscience — that’s a red flag.
  • Professional integrity includes the right to say “No.”
Provision 6

When systems are unsafe, we challenge them.

  • A divided workplace is not a safe workplace.
  • Truth-tellers protect culture.
Provision 7

We trust our training. We trust our eyes. We trust the data — not headlines.

  • We are researchers and reformers.
  • Suppression of innovation is unethical.
Provision 8

No patient should suffer because of misinformation or silence.

  • Justice means sharing every safe, effective option.
  • We advocate across barriers — language, class, or system bias.
Provision 1
Provision 9

Ethical leadership isn’t a title — it’s a decision.

  • Leadership means stepping up — even if you’re the only one standing.
  • Courage is contagious.
Provision 10

Whether you’re in rural America or a metro hospital — best practices shouldn’t be gatekept.

  • Global standards belong at the bedside.
  • We don’t hide proven options to protect egos and profits.

THIS IS THE NEW ERA OF ETHICAL NURSING.

We are the victims of the system.

We are the voice within it — and the conscience of it.
